NOBODY'S NEIGHBOURSWhere AI sits among the world's values

HOW FAR IS AI FROM YOUR COUNTRY: 3-DIMENSIONAL VERSION

AI MODELS AS OF OCTOBER 2026

HOW TO READ IT

The country you pick sits at the centre. The floor is the 2-D compass: east is more emancipative values, north is more moral flexibility. Height is the third theme, institutional trust. Each coloured needle reaches up or down to one AI model; its dashed shadow on the floor is the familiar 2-D needle.

INSTITUTIONAL TRUST

The third strongest theme in the survey: confidence in international organisations (the UN, the WHO, the IMF, the World Bank, the International Criminal Court), trust in other people, and optimism about science and the world. Highest: Myanmar, China, Vietnam. Lowest: Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico.

WHAT IT DOES NOT SAY

Direction is values, never geography. The three axes together capture about half of how countries differ (29%, 11% and 9%); the rest is spread across many smaller themes. A larger distance means different values, not better or worse ones.

WHERE IT COMES FROM

World Values Survey, wave 7 (2017–2023, 97,220 people in 66 countries), weighted national averages. AI models: GPT-5.6 Luna, Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Gemini 3.1 Pro, 100 runs each, October 2026.
