The country you pick sits at the hub. Each coloured needle points to one AI model on the study’s values map: east is more emancipative values, north is more moral flexibility. The longer the needle, the further apart. Faint dots inside the compass are the other countries, placed the same way.
Emancipative values: support for personal choice and equality (civil rights, divorce, euthanasia, gender equality). Moral flexibility: how far moral rules may bend (whether acts like cheating on taxes or bribery can ever be justified). Both axes are fitted on the 66 countries and checked against Welzel’s indices.
Direction on the compass is values, never geography. The compass shows the two main dimensions of all 128 questions; the card’s ranking uses all 128 in full. The compass’s two axes capture about 40% of how countries differ; the rest is spread across many smaller themes, which the overall distance includes. A larger distance means different values, not better or worse ones.
